Privacy & cookie policy
How we use your information, and your choices about cookies.
Last updated: 10 October 2026
1. Who we are
This website, www.astracleanuk.com, is run by Adam Marshall, trading as Astraclean UK ("we", "us", "our"). We are the controller of the personal information described in this policy, which means we decide how and why it's used.
If you have any question about this policy or your information, email us at sales@astracleanuk.com.
2. The information we collect and why
| What | When we collect it | Why we use it | Lawful basis (UK GDPR) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your name, email address and message | When you email us | To reply to you and deal with your enquiry | Our legitimate interests in answering customer questions. If you're asking about an order, it's needed to perform our contract with you |
| Name, delivery address, email, phone number (if you give it) and order details | When you buy directly from this website | To process, dispatch and deliver your order, send order emails, and handle cancellations, refunds and faults | Performance of a contract |
| Payment details | When you pay | Payments are taken by our payment provider, shown to you at checkout. We never see or store your full card number. We receive confirmation of payment, your name, email, delivery address and the amount paid | Performance of a contract |
| Order and payment records | After you buy | To keep accounts and tax records | Legal obligation |
| Website usage data: pages viewed, approximate location (city or country), device and browser type, and how you arrived at the site | Only if you accept analytics cookies | To understand how many people visit and which pages help them, so we can improve the site | Consent (you can refuse or withdraw it at any time) |
| Clicks on our buy buttons: which button was clicked (Buy direct, eBay, eBay 2-pack or Amazon), which page and part of the page it was on, and the date and hour of the click. Clicks on our Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest icons are counted the same way (which icon, which page and part of the page, and the date). This is an anonymous count, not linked to you | Each time you click one of those buttons or icons, whether or not you accept cookies | To see how many visitors go on to buy from each shop, and to compare clicks with sales by date and time | Our legitimate interests in knowing which ways of buying our customers use (see section 3) |
| Visits from our social media posts and profiles: when you open our site from a link we've labelled (for example in our TikTok or Instagram profile), or open our link page straight from one of those platforms, the label on that link or the platform's name (which platform, which series of posts and the type of link), the page you arrived on and the date. This is an anonymous count, not linked to you | When you arrive from one of those labelled links, whether or not you accept cookies | To see which social media platforms and posts bring visitors to the site | Our legitimate interests in knowing which of our marketing works (see section 3) |
| Technical data such as your IP address, logged by our website host | Every visit | To deliver the website securely and protect it from misuse | Our legitimate interests in running a secure website |
This website has no contact form and no user accounts. We don't sell your personal information, and we don't use it for automated decision-making or profiling. We don't send marketing emails unless you've asked to receive them.
If you buy Astraclean on eBay or Amazon, that sale is covered by eBay's or Amazon's own privacy policy. We only receive the details those platforms pass to us to fulfil your order.
3. Website statistics
Google Analytics 4 (only if you accept)
If you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-CVNBPXH52L), provided by Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC, to produce statistics about how our website is used. Google Analytics sets cookies (such as _ga and _ga_CVNBPXH52L) and collects the usage data described above. Google Analytics 4 doesn't log or store full IP addresses.
- Google Analytics is only loaded after you click "Accept" in our cookie banner. If you click "Reject", or make no choice, it isn't loaded at all.
- Analytics data is kept for the period set in our Google Analytics settings, which is never more than 14 months, and is then deleted automatically.
- Google may process this data in the United States. See section 6.
- More information: how Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can also install Google's opt-out browser add-on.
- If you accept, Google Analytics also records clicks on our Buy direct (single bottle or 2-pack), eBay and Amazon buttons (as an event called
store_click) as part of your visit, and, if you arrived from one of our labelled social media links, the label on that link (see below).
Counting clicks on our buy buttons (no cookies)
When you click a Buy direct (single bottle or 2-pack), eBay or Amazon button, your browser sends a short anonymous message to Abacus (abacus.jasoncameron.dev), a free counting service run by Jason Cameron, which may process data outside the UK, including in the United States. It adds one to a few counters: one for the shop you chose, one for the page and part of the page the button was on, and ones for the month, day and hour (UK time). We use these totals to see which ways of buying our customers use, and to compare clicks with orders by date and time. Clicks on our Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest icons are counted in the same way (which icon, where it was on the page, and the month and day), so we know whether people use them.
- No cookies are used, and nothing is stored on or read from your device, so this happens whether or not you accept analytics cookies.
- We only send the counter names. There are no identifiers and no details about you or your order, and we've told your browser not to send the address of the page you were on. We can't tell who clicked.
- As with any website your browser connects to, the counting service also receives the standard technical details of the connection, such as your IP address and browser type. They aren't part of the counts, and we don't receive them.
- If the counting service isn't available, the buttons work exactly the same.
Counting visits from our social media links (no cookies)
The links in our social media profiles and posts carry a short label at the end of the web address, such as ?utm_source=tiktok&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=bio. The label is the same for everyone who clicks that link. When a page opens from a labelled link, your browser sends a short anonymous message to the same Abacus counting service, which adds one to a few counters: one for the platform the link was on (such as TikTok or Instagram), one for the series of posts, one for the type of link, one for the page you arrived on, and ones for the month and day (UK time). We use these totals to see which platforms and posts bring visitors to the site. If you then click a Buy direct, eBay or Amazon button on that page, the click count above also notes which platform and series of posts the visit came from.
- It happens once each time a page opens from a labelled link. No cookies are used, and nothing is stored on or read from your device. There are no identifiers, so we can't tell who visited or link one visit to another.
- We only send the counter names, made from the label and the page name. Labels are shortened, and any we don't recognise are counted as "other".
- Straight afterwards, the label is removed from the address shown in your browser, so it isn't counted again if you refresh the page, bookmark it or share it.
- Some apps (Pinterest in particular) remove the label from the website link in our profile. So when our link page (
/links/) is opened straight from Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok or YouTube without a label, it's counted in the same way as a visit from our profile link on that platform. To do this, the page checks which website your browser says you came from (the "referrer") and turns it into just the platform name; the referrer itself isn't sent or kept. This only happens when the page is first opened, not when you refresh it or come back to it. - Other visits that don't come from one of our labelled links aren't counted this way.
We also send the same anonymous details (shop, page, part of the page) to our own order system on Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc.), which stores them with the exact time of the click. No IP address, identifiers or cookies are stored.
4. Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small files that a website stores on your device. Some websites use similar technologies, such as your browser's local storage. We use:
| Type | Name / provider | Purpose | Needs your consent? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your cookie choice | astraclean-cookie-consent (stored in your browser's local storage, not sent to us) | Remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics cookies, for up to 12 months | No (strictly necessary) |
| Buy-button click counts and social media visit counts | Abacus (abacus.jasoncameron.dev) | Anonymous count of clicks on the Buy direct (single bottle or 2-pack), eBay and Amazon buttons and on our social media icons, and of visits arriving from our labelled social media links (see section 3). Nothing is stored on your device | No (no cookies or device storage used) |
| Our own test setting | astraclean-click-test (local storage) | Only set if someone opens a special test link that we use ourselves. It stops clicks from that browser being added to the real counts. Normal visitors never have it | No |
| Analytics | Google Analytics 4 (_ga, _ga_CVNBPXH52L) | Visitor statistics (see section 3) | Yes |
| Embedded video | YouTube (Google), privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com) | Nothing is loaded from YouTube until you press play on our product video. Once you press play, YouTube may store information on your device and record that you watched it, under Google's privacy policy | Only loads when you choose to play the video |
| Payment | Our payment provider | Set by the payment provider when you go to pay, to process the payment securely and prevent fraud | No (strictly necessary for payment) |
When you first visit, a banner lets you accept or reject analytics cookies. Rejecting is as easy as accepting, and the site works the same either way.
You can also change your mind at any time with the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of every page, or by clearing cookies and site data in your browser settings.
5. Who we share your information with
We only share your information where we need to, with:
- Our website host: GitHub, Inc. (GitHub Pages), which serves this website and may log technical data such as IP addresses for security.
- Our email provider: ImprovMX, which receives emails sent to sales@astracleanuk.com and forwards them to our mailbox.
- Abacus (abacus.jasoncameron.dev): our counting service, which receives only the anonymous click and visit counts (and, to make the connection, your IP address), as described in section 3.
- Cloudflare, Inc.: runs our small order system. When you buy direct, PayPal sends it the order details (your name, email, delivery address and what you bought) so it can email us the order to post. It also stores the anonymous buy-button click times described in section 3.
- Payment providers: if you buy direct, the payment provider shown at checkout (such as Stripe or PayPal). They act as independent controllers for payment and fraud-prevention data under their own privacy policies.
- Delivery companies: such as Royal Mail or Evri, who receive your name, delivery address and sometimes your email or phone number so they can deliver your order and send tracking updates.
- Google: for Google Analytics (only if you accept) and YouTube (only if you play the video), as described above.
- Professional advisers and HMRC, where needed for tax and accounts.
- Anyone we're legally required to share it with, for example the police or a court.
6. International transfers
Some of these providers (for example GitHub, Google, Cloudflare, Stripe and PayPal) may process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where they do, they protect it with recognised safeguards, such as the UK–US "data bridge" (the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework), the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
The Abacus counting service may process data outside the UK, including in the United States. It only receives the anonymous counts described in section 3 (and, to make the connection, your IP address).
7. How long we keep it
| Information | How long |
|---|---|
| Email enquiries (not about an order) | Only as long as we need to deal with your enquiry, then deleted |
| Order, payment and delivery records | 6 years from the end of the tax year of the order, to meet HMRC record-keeping rules |
| Google Analytics data | No more than 14 months (see section 3) |
| Your cookie choice | Up to 12 months, after which we'll ask you again |
| Anonymous buy-button click times (our Cloudflare order system) | Kept in our business records; they contain nothing that identifies you |
| Anonymous buy-button click counts and social media visit counts | The counting service deletes a counter 6 months after it was last used. We keep the monthly totals in our business records |
8. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- access the personal information we hold about you (a "subject access request");
- have inaccurate information corrected;
- have your information deleted where we no longer need it or you withdraw consent;
- restrict or object to our use of your information, including any use based on legitimate interests;
- data portability, meaning you get a copy of information you gave us in a reusable format;
- withdraw consent at any time (for example to analytics cookies) without affecting what we did before.
To use any of these rights, email sales@astracleanuk.com. There's no charge, and we'll reply within one month.
9. Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please contact us first at sales@astracleanuk.com and we'll do our best to put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO): ico.org.uk, helpline 0303 123 1113.
10. Keeping your information safe
We use reputable, secure providers. The website runs over HTTPS (encrypted), payments are handled entirely by our payment provider, and access to our email and order records is password-protected and limited to us.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date at the top.
